  • Indiana LB likes UT: High school linebackers who want to play immediately at the college level will have a great opportunity at Tennessee. That's why one prospect attending Wednesday's camp is seriously considering the Volunteers.
  • Mobile QB: With two young pocket passers already on campus in rising sophomore Tyler Bray and mid-term freshman Justin Worley, Tennessee is looking for a prospect who brings a different dimension to the quarterback position.
  • Turner can turn a game: A self-styled "game-changer" might be changing games for the University of Tennessee football program someday.
  • Big'un for a young'un: His powerful 6-foot-4, 325-pound frame is impressive.
  • The truth works: Elite prospects typically hear nothing but praise when they attend a summer football camp. So, when Tennessee coaches noted some flaws in one heralded quarterback during their recent camp, the recruit was surprised.

  • Roster management: The big issue at this week's SEC meetings in Destin, Fla., apparently will be "roster management." If so, it's about time.
  • Immediate impact : If Tennessee's five spring basketball signees fail to make major contributions in 2011-12, it won't be because they couldn't grasp the system. Cuonzo Martin says his system couldn't be simpler.
  • Dooley on 'loopholes': In his first season as head football coach at Tennessee Derek Dooley signed 27 players - two above the annual limit of 25 enrollees - so he's OK with the SEC rule allowing its teams to sign up to 28 athletes.
  • Cool your heels : Here's a piece of advice for Tennessee football players as they're racing unimpeded to the end zone this fall: Watch your step. Literally.
  • No more foul-fests : Three games pretty well sum up Tennessee basketball player Kenny Hall's 2010-11 season:

  • Low expectations: Now that Tobias Harris and Scotty Hopson have picked the NBA Draft over their remaining collegiate eligibility, most observers are projecting a major downturn in Tennessee's basketball fortunes.
  • Drawing a crowd: Tennessee is in the running for a wideout who seems equally adept at attracting passes and scholarship offers.
  • Versatile prospect : A "pretty tough rascal" with the potential to play tight end, outside linebacker or defensive end at the college level is getting a look from Tennessee.
  • Big man on campus: He wasn't the most talented prospect attending Derek Dooley's lineman camp Saturday afternoon but he surely was the most physically imposing.
  • Incredible upside: Imagine that you're a 6-foot-2, 225-pound high school football player. Last fall you caught 24 passes for 374 yards at tight end and registered six sacks among your 49 tackles at linebacker. You already have a dozen major-college scholarship offers.

  • Cuonzo on returnees : Since Cameron Tatum is the only member of Tennessee's 2011-12 basketball team who played a significant role in 2010-11, the Vols need several returnees to elevate their games in the months ahead.
  • Star power for RTL?: Area basketball fans love the Pilot Rocky Top Summer League, and they may love it even more this June.
  • Quick with a quip : Ultimately, he'll be judged on how he matches up with Bruce Pearl as a strategist. For now, though, Cuonzo Martin is gaining on Pearl as a humorist.

  • Vols are diggin' Diggs : Tennessee is hot on the trail of a high-profile Florida safety.
  • Battle tested : Most high school post prospects face a difficult adjustment when they start encountering 6-10, 250-pounders at the college level. That should not be the case for Tennessee's newest signee, however.
  • A matter of Faith : Tennessee is among two dozen schools drooling over a green but gifted defensive lineman who boasts a 4-star rating after playing just two years of organized football.
  • 'Taller Vick' on Vol radar : Since taking over as Memphis Melrose's head football coach on May 6 Darryl Stewart already determined that his rising senior quarterback is something special.
  • Allen Gant on UT radar : After signing eight defensive backs for its 2011 recruiting class, Tennessee will be very selective on DBs for its 2012 class. One Midwest standout has a good chance to make the cut, however.
