  • Lady Vols survive to face Cowgirls: The Lady Vols recovered from a crushing loss to start play Saturday with a dominating win in the nightcap to keep the postseason on track for Tennessee, which will have its gloves full today as it tries to twice defeat Oklahoma State to advance to a Super Regional.
  • Lady Vols fall short against Cowgirls: The replay showed Kelly Grieve was safe in a bang-bang play at the plate – a run that would have tied the game in the seventh inning – but the call snuffed out the senior’s career and ended Tennessee’s season in the Knoxville Regional with a 6-5 loss to Oklahoma State.
  • Women's Pilot league enters second year: Nine current or incoming Lady Vols are committed to playing this summer in the Women’s Pilot Rocky Top League, which is entering its second season and will be played beginning in late June at Christian Academy of Knoxville.
  • Lady Vol recruit faces ACL rehab: Andraya Carter, a standout guard in the class of 2012 and verbal commitment to Tennessee, will spend the next months in rehab after tearing her ACL in a pickup basketball game while trying to deflect a pass on defense.
  • Volunteer spirit on display: Despite severe thunderstorm warnings throughout the day and a downpour just before the event was scheduled to end, hundreds of people – including Lady Vol athletes from an assortment of teams – showed up at a Knoxville church over the weekend to support the drive to find a bone marrow match for a 10-year-old girl.
  • Meighan Simmons picked first in RTL draft: Rising Lady Vol sophomore Meighan Simmons was the first pick Tuesday of the Women’s Pilot Rocky Top League draft, which begins play in a week, and is one of 12 players with ties to Tennessee who is expected to participate in the summer games.
  • Women's summer league gets underway: The Women’s Pilot Rocky Top League got a little later start this summer and has been compressed into two weeks, but the fans turned out Monday evening at Christian Academy of Knoxville and were treated to three games, including the first chance to see incoming Lady Vol Isabelle Harrison.
  • Lady Vols fun side emerges in summer: Meighan Simmons smiled and called it tough love after the game. She was referring to the strategic double teams she got from Glory Johnson and Alicia Manning as DeRoyal worked to stay undefeated in the Women’s Pilot Rocky Top League by trying to suffocate the sharpshooter. It was partially effective – DeRoyal won, but the sophomore connected on eight treys.

  • Joan Cronan selected as Interim AD for UT: One of Joan Cronan’s guiding principles as Women’s Athletics Director for the Lady Vols is that she should not be on the front page of the newspaper unless it’s to celebrate a championship. She will take that – and her philosophy of working incessantly behind the scenes to ensure that the sports programs can be successful – into her new role as interim AD for the Vols.
  • Candace Parker endorses Joan Cronan: Candace Parker, one of the most decorated Lady Vols in program history, saluted the choice of Joan Cronan as interim athletics director for the Vols and said she hoped the appointment opens up more opportunities for women to lead major universities.
